Vintage Art – Brass Rubbing.  This is a very neat art piece, a brass rubbing by an artist named Boris Lissanevitch.  Boris was a former Russian ballet dancer who immigrated to Kathmandu. In 1952, He was commissioned by the Nepalese government to establish the first luxury hotel in Nepal to accommodate British Royalty. Later, Boris founded the Chimney Restaurant in Kathmandu, a place to see and be seen.  It was where the rich and famous hung out.  This colorful character is affectionately referred to as “The Father of Tourism in Nepal.”  This brass rubbing was done by Boris in 1972 and was given as a gift, by him and his wife Inger to friends, Ruth and Jo Ippolito Christensen.  You can read more about this lively character in the biographical book by Michel Peissel, "Tiger for Breakfast; The Story of Boris of Kathmandu.”  The brass rubbing is matted and preserved in a plastic sleeve, it measures 16” x 20”
